With the arrival of April we welcome Earth Day, a time to consider our commitment to protect the planet. The mission of Earth Day is to “broaden, diversify and activate the environmental movement worldwide, through a combination of education, public policy, and consumer campaigns.” This year marks the 45th anniversary of Earth Day, founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson in 1970.

As a company, we see Earth Day as an opportunity to celebrate our core values and also measure and assess our environmental impact.
Our 2014 Social and Environmental Responsibility Report highlights performance metrics on our key efforts to Take Care of the Planet, Put People First, Unite in Action, and Give Back. This report gives transparency to our stakeholders, holds us accountable to our commitments, and celebrates our successes so far.
Our significant achievements in 2014 include becoming a Zero Waste Facility (at our main headquarters / manufacturing location) and creating an improved Employee Benefits Program.
We know the stakes are high, and that there is much more that we need to do to support our communities and planet. The world’s biggest industry is industrial agriculture. No industry does more damage, and nowhere is there more potential for meaningful change. That’s why we are supporting carbon farming, a climate change solution to sequester the over-abundance of carbon in the atmosphere into our farmland soils. It’s also why we support advocacy and education for regenerative organic agriculture.
The largest portion of our 1% giving funds supports Food & Environmental Activism, because we believe that people uniting in action to protect their inherent rights will be better stewards of the environment. More than ever before, as individuals, we are armed with powerful, personal means of communication, and portable tools of research and learning.
